Yesterday we finally went to @officeworks to drop Yesterday we finally went to @officeworks to drop all the plastic pens and markers that we have been collecting for the past few of years (plus other items). . According to the website Educationmattersmag.com.au "Each year in Australia, over 140 million pens are sold, contributing approximately 700 tonnes of plastic waste to landfill sites across the nation." . Imagine the numbers worldwide, scary 🖊 I am glad there are now ways to at least recycle them. . As my big collection of old working pens has been reduced considerably, I am now starting to think in less wasteful options. I am interested in quality pens which I can refill and find parts. . For whiteboard markers I know a good option in Australia is @_auspen. . What about durable/reusable pens? Finally I managed to do something with these old u Finally I managed to do something with these old umbrellas which I have been collecting to avoid sending them to landfill. . Carin from @ploysdesign uses the fabric to create unique upcycled products. I love what they are doing giving these items another chance. . To reduce the postage cost you can remove the fabric from the frame by carefully cutting through the little stitches (photo 2). I ended up sending the whole thing because I was not doing a very good job and I was afraid I could be damaging the fabric. . On top of umbrellas, Carin told me they are happy to take: . ✅ Shower curtains ✅ Rain Jackets ✅ Air Mattresses ✅ Pool inflatables . Recently I got some fresh bay leaves from the shop Recently I got some fresh bay leaves from the shop where I buy my fruits and veggies (they often give them away 💚), so I spent some time drying them. It is quite easy and the kitchen smells amazing. . I have tried two methods, using the microwave or the oven. In the microwave is very quick (a couple of minutes) but I prefer the oven method. . I wash and pat dried the leaves. Then I arrange them in a tray and bake them using a low temperature (less than 100 °C) until they are dry around 30 min - depending on the temperature. I usually turn the oven off when they are almost done and leave them there with the residual heat to finish the drying process. . These will last a long time. When I can't find fresh bay leaves, I buy them from the bulk shop that way I skip the plastic packaging. .
