The feeling of holding and reading a real book is The feeling of holding and reading a real book is great to me ๐Ÿ“š, but it takes massive amounts of resources (and trees) to print and manufacture these books. According to the Guardian:
.
"A study of the US book industry for a single year (2006) estimated that publishing consumed approximately 30m trees and had a carbon footprint equivalent to 12.4m metric tons of carbon dioxide"
.
To me the best option is to borrow books from the local library, that's usually my way to go. The next option is to buy second-hand books โœ…
.
Pre-loved books are a bit harder to get, for instance the chances of going to an opp-shop and finding exactly that book you want to read are low (although it has happened to me a couple of times)
.
So an alternative is to get pre-loved books online. It is easier to find what you are looking for. These are some of the online shops I know:
.
thriftbooks.com
brotherhoodbooks.org.au
worldofbooks.com/en-au
.
I have also bought second-hand books via platforms like gumtree, Amazon, Facebook Marketplace and even Ebay.
.
Do you buy second-hand books? Where do you get them?

Plants you didn't plant!!!...This capsicum plant s Plants you didn't plant!!!...This capsicum plant started to grow in a pot where my husband had added some soil from our compost. Funnily we had never tried growing capsicum before ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
.
This happens often with tomatoes too. In summer they start growing everywhere..
.
Have your compost given you a surprise plant in your garden?

Inspired by a video, my mum has been experimenting Inspired by a video, my mum has been experimenting sprouting legumes reusing an old plastic bottle. She just opened some small holes throughout the bottle and removed the top.
.
So far she has tried: lentils, black beans, chickpeas and mung beans (in the photo). All with very good results.
.
I own a sprouter which I bought years ago and it is great for seeds. We often have alfalfa or broccoli seeds sprouting there but it is not very good for legumes. So a simple bottle can do the trick.
.
We have also sprouted legumes using an old basket (one of those from ricotta cheese) and it has also worked great. No need to buy special equipment to give it a go.
.
Sprouting makes it easier for a body to absorb nutrients. Have you tried sprouting legumes?

Medication is one of those unavoidable items, rega Medication is one of those unavoidable items, regardless of the packaging, we buy it when we need it.
.
Blister packsย are usually made from a mixture of plastic and foil and cannot be easily recycled, that's why they are not accepted by local councils recycling programs.
.
As most people, I have been sending these to landfill for years, that's why I was very glad to discover some months ago that here in Australia @floraandfaunaau are now accepting them for recycling ๐Ÿ‘โ™ป๏ธ.
.
You can send these together with personal care/cosmetic packaging (that are not recycled by local councils) which they also accept and recycle via Terracycle.
.
And for helping to reduce waste and the environment , they'll give you $10 in credit that you can spend from the online shop.
.
They have all the info in the website.
.
Are you recycling your blister packs from medication?

One of the best ways to get inspiration to eat mor One of the best ways to get inspiration to eat more plant based food is to get some books. You can try borrowing some from the library.
.
Even if you only want to experiment with a couple of meals per week or
#meatfreemonday, I think recipes really help.
.
Out of these 5 books I have only tried "Community", this is the second time I borrow it, it only covers salads and it is quite good.
.
The other 4 are new to me:
.
๐Ÿ’š Raw + Free ( @rawandfree ) was recommended by a friend.
๐Ÿ’š The How not to diet cookbook I borrowed it because I follow Dr Michael Greger. His YouTube channel is really good, he posts videos about plant based food based on scientific studies, check @nutrition_facts_org.
๐Ÿ’š Chloe flavour I selected it because I already own one of her books and I like it. I've followed her on @chefchloe for a while.
๐Ÿ’š Oh She Glows Every Day caught my attention because I have made several recipes from her website. You can follow Angela on @ohsheglows.
.
What's your favourite plant based recipe book? Have you read any of these?

Yesterday we finally went to @officeworks to drop Yesterday we finally went to @officeworks to drop all the plastic pens and markers that we have been collecting for the past few of years (plus other items).
.
According to the website Educationmattersmag.com.au "Each year in Australia, over 140 million pens are sold, contributing approximately 700 tonnes of plastic waste to landfill sites across the nation."
.
Imagine the numbers worldwide, scary ๐Ÿ–Š I am glad there are now ways to at least recycle them.
.
As my big collection of old working pens has been reduced considerably, I am now starting to think in less wasteful options. I am interested in quality pens which I can refill and find parts.
.
For whiteboard markers I know a good option in Australia is @_auspen.
.
What about durable/reusable pens? What's your favourite alternative?
